Adelaide Business School 2024 Research Awards

Adelaide Business School is proud to announce the winners of the 2024 Research Awards.

ABS Researcher and Emerging Researcher of the Year

Marta Khomyn

Marta’s research activities have spanned across accepted top publications, generating research income and showing impact and engagement.

Some highlights include: part of her PhD thesis being published in the top-tier Review of Financial Studies (h-index 234, SJR score 17.654); generating more than $60,000 in research income from the World Bank where she is directly impacting Kazakhstan’s digital transformation program, as well as aiding assessments of infrastructure damage in Ukraine.

She is also regularly involved in public outreach of her research. This includes writing for The Conversation, podcasts for Diffusion Radio (a platform for disseminating science to the public), representing our University at the Australian Academy of Sciences Falling Walls Lab, and giving a talk to a packed audience at the Adelaide Fringe Future Science Talks where Science meets Comedy. You can watch a recording of her talk, titled “Men, Machines, & Emotions in Finance”, on YouTube.

Early Career Commendations

Amelie Burgess & Jin Ma

While commendations are not usually given, an exception has been made for two outstanding teaching focused staff. Both Amelie and Jin have had significant teaching responsibilities across a wide number of courses. Despite this, they found the time to pursue their research goals and they now both have A* journal acceptances to their name. Jin has also won research funding from AFAANZ. They have set great example of pursuing their research goals.

Research Engagement Award

Graciela Corral de Zubielqui & Tracey Dodd

There are two award winners for this category this year. Graciela has championed research engagement activities in Adelaide Business School, including leading the School’s engagement series. She also rolled out a mentorship program, linking Early Career Researchers with industry mentors. In addition, she provides support for hosting industry events such as the upcoming October International Business group event on exporting from South Australia. She was also featured by the SA Woman Society as one of the ‘Featured SA Woman to Watch for 2024’.

As for Tracey, she has established herself as a national expert on climate governance. She was appointed the inaugural facilitator and academic responsible for the Australian Institute of Company Directors ‘Climate governance for Australian directors” course, teaching senior executives and directors of Australia’s largest businesses. She was also appointed Adjunct Associate Professor with the Governance Institute of Australia, providing a number of keynote speeches for them in their Risk Forums. She has also organised a number of events for the school and faculty, most recently inviting Hon. Mike Rann to talk.
