Alumnus, Dr Guy Debelle Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of Australia speaks in Adelaide

The Adelaide Business School was delighted to join with the American Chamber of Commerce to host Deputy Governor Dr Guy Debelle’s speech in Adelaide on Wednesday 10 April.

Speaking to a full house, Dr Debelle gave SA’s government, banking and business communities the opportunity to hear firsthand the Reserve Bank’s take on the health of the Australian economy.

Dr Debelle, who holds a first class honours in Economics from the University of Adelaide, highlighted conflicting signals in the economy but told attendees that he believed data showed an underlying strength in the economy. Professor Noel Lindsay, the new Dean of the Adelaide Business School welcomed Dr Debelle who reflected fondly on his time as a student of the University in the 1970’s.

Professor Pascale Quester, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), facilitated questions from media, and the broader audience.

Our thanks to American Chamber of Commerce for working with the Adelaide Business School to present this highly successful event.

Prior to his public event, Dr Debelle spent time with students from the University’s School of Economics, answering their questions about important Australian and global economic matters including job security, the labour market, housing and household debt, and Brexit. Dr Debelle also added personal reflections on his rise to Deputy Governor, and provided valuable insight on pathways for careers in economics.
